If you are in the mood for a meal that’s made just like mom used to make, go to the Westside Café in Escondido. Chicken soup, meatloaf, chef’s salad, roast beef sandwich, country fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy highlight a menu of over 40 entrees.

You get equal parts American comfort food and neighborhood diner. This is the type of restaurant you will find throughout America. It’s a restaurant with accommodating policies such as breakfast served all day. The restaurant is filled with regulars that the waitresses know on a first name basis and can guess what some of their customers will order.

The restaurant is roomy and has comfortable booths that are a throwback to the sixties and seventies era. Their portion sizes are generous and fairly priced; you won’t leave hungry or with an empty wallet. When we ordered a “cup” of soup it was served in a small bowl. The salad was fresh and crisp with a tasty dressing. The roast turkey and roast pork with stuffing were very good. They have several specials daily, which were priced at $6.99, and included the entrée and side dishes. Consistency is insured by the fact the cooks have been there for fifteen years. We ordered a homemade coconut cream pie for dessert and it was sweet, rich and delicious.

It’s a fun place loaded with variety. For lunch you can order a hamburger, BLT, Reuben, French dip, turkey sandwich, or chili size, the choices seem endless and you can top it off with a milk shake.

On Sunday mornings they pack the place and it is a fun place to go for breakfast after Church. The Westside Diner is a great choice for “Good Old Comfort Food”.
