A Taste of Florcence

340 East Grand Avenue
Escondido, CA 92025
Driving Directions

A Taste of Florence restaurant defines itself as “The Best Kept Secret in Escondido”. That is probably because it is tucked away in a more remote part of Grand Avenue.

It is an affordable family style restaurant full of fun. The entrance is through a cozy patio/walkway, filled with tables, plants and outdoor space heaters. The night we were there, Tony Soraci, an Italian singer/guitar player, had the patrons in high spirits as they sang, clapped and some danced with the music. What fun to be in a restaurant filled with happy people.

The dining room was lit perfectly, not too bright nor too dim. Fresh flowers adorned the tables. One wall had that “Old World Italian Charm”. It was decorated with bottles of wine and had shelves adorned with olive oil, balsamic vinegars and other bottled goods you would expect to find in an Italian market.

The atmosphere is very casual. The service was cheerful and efficient. In such a relaxed atmosphere we couldn’t resist starting with a glass of Chianti. The wine was robust and smooth.

The food is simple and fresh. The Brushetta appetizer was exactly as described on the menu and it was tasty. Lightly toasted and seasoned, with fresh tomato, garlic and basil. Folks, if you like a strong fresh garlic flavor, give it a try.

The soup of the day was mushroom; it was prepared just right, light and flavorful. One of those treats that made you want to order a second bowl. As we wanted to experience a wide variety of their faire, we ordered another appetizer, the Calamari Fritti. It was hand breaded, seasoned and cooked perfectly. It was accompanied by a mild marinara dipping sauce. I prefer a sauce with a stronger flavor so I added some lemon, salt and pepper.

I suggest trying the Bistecca Alla Florentina, a marinated tender filet topped with fresh spinach. Another delicious entrée is the Homemade Lasagna, which consists of flavorful layers of ricotta, pasta and sauce, light yet filling. Grandioso, mangiare! The next time back, I’ll try the pizza, which looked very appetizing.

Tiramisu for dessert, homemade and a delightful finish to a fun filled night at “A taste of Florence”. Folks this restaurant is worth seeking out. It’s also a great place to celebrate special occasions.
